The show came under fire earlier this year for its portrayal of Michael Jackson
The new series of Sky Arts’ Urban Myths will see Noel Fielding play Alice Cooper and Jack Whitehall star as Marc Bolan.
The series, which recreates rumoured tales about celebrities, came under fire back in January after its portrayal of Michael Jackson was criticised, with Jackson’s daughter Paris saying that Joseph Fiennes’ portrayal of her father “honestly made me want to vomit”. That episode was axed by Sky following the complaints.
The latest season of Urban Myths will see two popular comedy figures playing two music legends, with Fielding set to star as Cooper in the episode The Dali and The Cooper – which will tell the story of Cooper befriending artist Salvador Dali (played by David Suchet) in 1973 and attending a bizarre birthday party at Dali’s home.
Whitehall, meanwhile, will play Bolan in When Bowie Met Bolan, with Bowie set to be played by Luke Treadaway. The episode imagines Bowie and Bolan striking up a friendship years before their success while painting their shared manager’s office.
The final tale to be announced is Public Enemy, which dramatises the time that the acclaimed hip-hop group were picked up by a fan in his Ford Escort after they missed their taxi service to a gig in Sheffield.
The new series of Urban Myths will air on Sky Arts next year.
