Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon heading to Spain for third series of ‘The Trip’

Series recommissioned by Sky Atlantic

Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon will return for a third series of The Trip.

The pair have made two series of their buddy comedy, the first was set in the Lake District while the second saw them travel around Italy. Both series were broadcast by BBC2.

However, the new series has been recommissioned by Sky Atlantic and will see Coogan and Brydon venture from the North Atlantic to the Mediterranean coast. They will visit Cantabria, the Basque region, Aragon, Rioja, Castile-La Mancha and Andalusia. Michael Winterbottom will return as director.

Sky Atlantic is also home to Coogan’s Alan Partridge with a new series of Mid Morning Matters starting tomorrow night (February 16).

Speaking about the return of The Trip, Coogan said: “Having thought long and hard about yet another sojourn into culinary distractions and middle age, I have reluctantly agreed to Y viva Espana. I have a hole in my diary, there will be free food and accommodation and Rob Brydon is surprisingly good company. I also like Michael.”

Winterbottom added: “Travelling with Rob and Steve is always enjoyable – so it seemed like a good idea to go on another journey together – before they get too old.”

Filming on the series will begin in Spain later this year.
