‘Stranger Things’ creators tease new characters and settings for season two

Netflix announced earlier today (August 31) that the hit series is returning for nine new episodes

After Netflix finally confirmed that it has renewed Stranger Things this afternoon (August 31), the show’s creators have revealed a few teasers for season two.

Season two will feature nine episodes – one more than the first season, Netflix has confirmed, with co-creators Matt and Ross Duffy returning. The new episodes will launch at a date in 2017 which is still to be confirmed.

“There’s going to be a lot of new and interesting dynamics that we didn’t see in season one,” Matt Duffer told Entertainment Weekly shortly after the announcement.

Meanwhile, his brother Ross Duffer confirmed that virtually every character from season one will definitely be returning – with one notable exception. “We don’t know about Eleven,” he added. “We leave that up in the air.”

Matt Duffer also revealed that season two will “venture a little bit outside of Hawkins” as well as exploring more of The Upside Down.

“We obviously have this gate to another dimension, which is still very much open in the town of Hawkins. And a lot of questions there in terms of, if the Monster is dead, was it a singular monster? What else could be out there?” he explained. “We really don’t go in there much until they go in to find Will at the end. So we’ve opened up this doorway, and to us it’s exciting to talk about, like, what else is behind there? There’s a lot more mystery there to be solved.”
