Fozzie Bear raps Dr Dre's rhymes and Kermit the Frog handles the track's vocal hook
A new mash-up video shows The Muppets “covering” NWA’s ‘Express Yourself’.
YouTube user AnimalRobot has matched video footage from 1979’s The Muppet Movie to audio from the Compton collective’s 1988 rap classic to create the illusion of a Muppets-do-NWA lip-sync.
Fozzie Bear takes the lead on the “cover” by rapping Dr Dre’s rhymes, accompanied by Kermit the Frog, who strums along on banjo and delivers the track’s vocal hook.
The mash-up video taps into the massive buzz surrounding NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton, which debuted at Number One on the US box office over the weekend and opens in UK cinemas on August 28.
Meanwhile, The Muppets are preparing for a TV comeback with a new self-titled series set to launch this September. ABC’s The Muppets is conceived as a “contemporary, documentary-style show” which will apparently “lift the lid” on the Muppets’ personal lives and romantic relationships for the first time.
Ahead of the show’s premiere, Kermit and Miss Piggy recently announced that they are no longer romantically involved, though they reassured fans that they will “continue to work together on television and in all media now known or hereafter devised, in perpetuity, throughout the universe”.
