‘The Punisher’ Netflix series begins filming

First photos reveal star Jon Bernthal on set

The Punisher has begun filming today (October 4), as photos show the original Netflix series star Jon Bernthal on set.

The series was given the go-ahead after The Punisher’s appearance in Daredevil season two proved popular with fans.

Frank Castle aka The Punisher is a popular antihero who made his Marvel Comics debut in 1974 and has previously been played on screen by actors including Dolph Lundgren, Thomas Jane and Ray Stevenson.

Marvel described the character’s role in Daredevil as “a vigilante who aims to clean up New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen by any means necessary, no matter how lethal the results”.

Filming is set to continue for a few months, with previous reports stating that the Netflix series will air on the streaming service in 2017.

Netflix’s adaptation of the character into a new show will mark the sixth Marvel adaptation that’s been put together for the platform, following on from Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage as well as the yet to be launched Iron Fist and The Defenders.
