Was it a hit?
Last night, Piers Morgan interviewed President Donald Trump in his first international TV interview since taking office in 2017.
The divisive pair, who are both nominated for Villain Of The Year at the NME Awards, recorded the interview at the World Economic Forum last week.
Among the key revelations was Trump’s apparent willingness to apologise for retweeting a number of videos from hate group Britain First last year.
“If you’re telling me they’re horrible people, horrible racist people I would certainly apologise if you would like me to do that”, he said.
“I am the least racist person that anybody is going to meet. Certainly I wasn’t endorsing anybody.”
In an altogether less surprising revelation, Trump admitted that he is not a feminist – instead insisting that he is for “everyone”.
“I wouldn’t say I’m a feminist. I think that would be maybe going a little bit too far. I’m for women, I’m for men, I’m for everyone”, he admitted.
Largely though, the chat failed to impress viewers who were less than happy with Morgan’s apparent soft approach towards the US President.
“Had to turn off Piers Morgan and Trump. Shameful soft soaping and a complete non-event”, one viewer wrote.
Another said: “Your questions should have produced sweat on his top lip. Too soft, too pally, won’t go down as one of the best political interviews. He won. @piersmorgan.”
Check out a series of reactions below.
But the one off chat also had its fans too – with Labour MP Kate Hoey praising it as “really well handled”.
“Expect will be attacked for saying this-I enjoyed @piersmorgan interview with @POTUS. Really well handled by piers and well done for pulling it off @ITV”, she wrote.
