Producers said to be 'paralysed with fear' over ratings decline
X Factor bosses are reportedly planning to switch the judge’s categories in a shock twist.
It has been suggested that the move would see Gary Barlow‘s boys, Kelly Rowland‘s girls, Tulisa Contostavlos‘ groups and Louis Walsh‘s over 25s mentored by a different judge.
The judges have not been told about the plans, according to a report in The Sun.
The twist is apparently the result of crisis talks with senior staff, who are said to be “paralysed with fear” over the show’s slide in ratings, after it was was last week beaten by Strictly Come Dancing. The Halloween special was watched by 9.59 million, a drop of 180,000 from the previous week.
A source told the newspaper: “This move will really put the cat among the pigeons as it’s the last thing the judges will expect. It will be a major test for them as they’ve become too comfortable with their own acts. Producers reckon tearing up the format is just the shot in the arm the show needs.”
The theme for tonight’s (November 5) show in ‘club classics’.
