One of the most widely acclaimed episodes from the latest season of Black Mirror could be set for its very own spin-off.
The Star Trek inspired ‘USS Callister’ starred Jesse Plemons as Robert Daly, a Captain Kirk-esque leader who is adored by his crew aboard the titular ship.
But in a twist that is typical of the dystopian show, it is later revealed that the world has been created by Daly’s warped mind, and his crew members are in fact virtual reality simulations of his real-life colleagues.
Now, director Toby Haynes has revealed that a return to the sci-fi world of the episode could be on the cards, as he’s discussed it with creator Charlie Brooker.
“[It] is probably one of the best pilots for a space show ever,” the director told the Hollywood Reporter.
“I was talking with Louise Sutton, who produced this and ”Metalhead,“ and she cooked up a brilliant idea of spinning it off into a TV series. I’m keen to see it as a TV series. I think Charlie might revisit it as a Black Mirror. Whether I’m the one to do it, I don’t know.”
The fourth season of Black Mirror made its debut on Netflix last week – with all episodes now available to air on the streaming service.
