It's received the thumbs-up from Smithy himself...
A Gavin & Stacey superfan says she dropped her phone on the floor in shock after James Corden endorsed her brilliant tribute to the classic sitcom.
Student Morgan Price Evans received Corden’s backing after posting a video of the fancy dress party on Twitter, where it’s received thousands of retweets.
But while Morgan is a dead ringer for Nessa in the clip, it’s the incredible attention to detail at last weekend’s party that makes the whole thing so impressive.
Uncle Bryn, for instance, is seen wearing a t-shirt that reads “My Niece Went To Greece And All I Got Was This Lousy T-Shirt”. It’s a subtle nod to the t-shirt that he sported upon Stacey’s return from her honeymoon.
Most impressive of all, however, is the group dressed as every individual item from Smithy’s takeaway order. For the uninitiated among us, that’s a Chicken bhuna, lamb bhuna, prawn bhuna, mushroom rice, bag of chips and 9 poppadoms.
Obviously we had to catch up with Morgan about the whole thing. Tidy.
Hi, Morgan! The whole thing is absolutely genius. Where did the idea come around?
“We’re all University students and we were having breakfast in July when the idea suddenly came up. We were talking about who’d be a good Bryn and who’d be a good Gwen. We had friends for every role and knew my birthday was coming up so we decided we’d have a Gavin & Stacey party.
It’s been planned since then, and we’ve been waiting for the day to come.”
When did you realise that Smithy himself (James Corden) had reacted to it?
“I honestly dropped my phone on the floor when I realised! My friend Caitlin rang me and was like ‘have you seen, have you seen?’ My friends told me to turn my phone off as my notifications were going mad as it gradually got bigger. As soon as I did is the moment that James Corden decides to retweet me. His reaction has made it all worth it.
“Rob Brydon’s also said it’s very impressive and Sheridan Smith gave it a like.”
You were Nessa? How did you decide who would take each role?
“It was simple. Everyone’s personality fitted it personally, and that’s why I ended up as Nessa. We also had a Facebook event in the run-up to it, where we posted who we’d go as to avoid doubles.
“But after the main roles were taken, there was a group of third years that wanted in and it’s that group that ended up coming in the curry costumes – the Chicken Bhuna, Lamb Bhuna and all the rest of it.”
When did you first become obsessed with Gavin & Stacey?
“I only started watching it from the third series, I didn’t really know it was a thing before that! But as soon as I knew what it was, I watched every single episode on Christmas Day. I left my family and I was hooked. I just love that it can make you laugh again and again.”
After the popularity of it all, are you going to make Gavin & Stacey parties a regular thing?
“Yes! We’re were saying that we’re waiting for people to ask us to do nightclub PAs, dressed as Nessa and Bryn. We’ll be there, we’ll be ready.”
Just finally, Christmas is around the corner. Have you started watching the legendary Christmas special again yet?
“100 percent. We watched it last night and we’ll watching it again tonight. It’s begun.”
