‘Top Gear’ presenters narrowly escape injury after £50,000 sport car bursts into flames

Eddie Jordan and Chris Harris were both unharmed during a spot of recent filming for the long-running motoring TV show

Two Top Gear presenters have managed to escape unharmed after a sports car they were driving burst into flames.

Chris Harris and F1 mogul Eddie Jordan were in the car in question, with Harris behind the wheel of the £50,000 Alpine sports car.

As The Independent reports, the pair were taking part in a stage of the Monte Carlo Rally on Monday (January 29) when flames started to emerge from the chassis of the car.

Fortunately, Harris and Jordan – who were both wearing F1-style fireproof overalls – were able to stop the car immediately and escape before the entire vehicle was engulfed in flames.

Speaking about the incident, Harris remarked: “I first realised I needed to get out when I opened the door and the flames went up my arm. Sadly the car was lost and it always makes me sad to see a beautiful car destroyed.”

Jordan added: “Doing a stage of the Monte Carlo Rally was a dream come true for me. The car was stunning – so light on its toes.

“It was dancing around the mountain and Chris was driving it beautifully. It’s such a shame we didn’t finish the test, but these things happen.”

Last week, a trailer for the forthcoming 25th season of Top Gear was officially unveiled.
