Tributes paid after ‘The Walking Dead’ star Scott Wilson dies

Tributes have been paid after it was announced that The Walking Dead star Scott Wilson has died, aged 76.

Wilson played Hershel Greene on the show from 2011 to 2014, and starred in around 30 episodes of the The Walking Dead in seasons two, three and four.

Announcing his death on Twitter, a spokesman for the programme wrote: “We are deeply saddened to report that Scott Wilson, the incredible actor who played Hershel on #TheWalkingDead , has passed away at the age of 76. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

“Rest in paradise, Scott. We love you!”

Casting director Matt Nelson wrote: “Sad night for The Walking Dead family. Shortly after producers confirmed Scott Wilson would return to TWD this season, it was announced he passed away. Keeping his family and the cast and crew who loved him so dearly in my thoughts. Rest easy, Scott.”

Meanwhile, Wilsons’ Walking Dead co-star was among the other stars to lead tribute.

“Today we lost one of the finest human beings myself and so many others have ever known,” she wrote, sharing a photo of the pair together. “Scott Wilson was pure love, kindness, elegance & grace. He had the ability to make me smile on the darkest of days. He was pure LOVE.

“I will miss him for the rest of my life.”


Famously known for his role as prison chaplain in Dead Man Walking, Wilson had also starred in several episodes of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation as Sam Braun, father of crime-scene investigator Catherine Willows. He also recently appeared in Amazon original series Bosch and The OA.
