Two new seasons of cult podcast ‘Serial’ are now in production

Season Two will launch this autumn, with Season Three to follow in spring 2016

Cult US podcast Serial is to return for at least two more seasons.

Hosted and co-created by Sarah Koenig, Serial is a spin-off from US radio show This American Life. Season One, which followed the investigation into an unsolved murder that took place in Baltimore in 1999, became a massive online hit last October. It was later broadcast in full on BBC Radio 4 Extra.

In November it was confirmed that Serial would return for a second season following a flurry of donations from fans of the podcast. Now Koenig and Serial‘s co-creator Julie Snyder have confirmed that two new seasons are currently in production, The A.V. Club reports.

Season Two will launch this autumn, with Season Three to follow in spring 2016. Koenig and Snyder gave away little about the content of the new seasons, saying only: “They’re very different from Season One, but no less interesting to us.” The show’s co-creators will to discuss the success of Serial at a series of evening lecture dates taking place in the US this summer, beginning in Vienna, Vermont on June 6. The evening lecture tour also includes dates in Hartford, Connecticut; Austin, Texas; Fort Worth, Texas; Dallas, Texas; Cleveland, Ohio and Brooklyn, New York.
