The show’s boss Scott Gimple has discussed plans to create more spin-offs in the franchise
The Walking Dead’s boss Scott Gimple has discussed plans for more spin-offs of the show in the future.
The show, which is currently in its eighth season, already has one spin-off- Fear The Walking Dead – and there are discussions for more.
The Walking Dead’s current showrunner Scott Gimple was recently promoted to oversee the whole brand at AMC. While his current role will be replaced by writer Angela Kang ahead of season nine.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Gimple teased that the show’s universe could be expanded even further.
Speaking about whether he has a new script in mind, he said: “We have a bunch of different things in mind.
“Some things that are really complimentary to the stuff we’re doing now and some stuff that’s far afield and very different.
“Those are two very different ends of the spectrum. We can do cool stuff in both of those spectrums and there’s other stuff that doesn’t quite fit in those descriptions. There are different approaches to how we tell stories and how long we tell them for and the places we can do them.
“I’m hoping to do a variety of different projects that are probably more in line with what we see on TV but maybe in different rhythms and formats and things like that.
“We’ll still continue to come out with great digital content but I’m excited about the kind of stuff we can do. But I really am talking about all sides of it and I know we’ll have more to talk about soon on that.”
The show’s current spin-off, Fear The Walking Dead, will cross paths with the flagship show next month, with Morgan set to appear in a series of storylines in the fourth season.
Last month, fans were shocked at the death of one of the show’s main characters, while the show’s creator Robert Kirkman recently responded to rumours that Rick Grimes could be the next main character to be killed off.
The show’s bosses have confirmed that it will return for an ninth season later this year.
