X Factor rapper's first song is coming later this month
Honey G has confirmed that she has signed to Simon Cowell’s Syco label to release her debut album and single, the latter of which is arriving later this month.
Before being voted off the show last month, the 35-year-old white rapper from Harrow in North-West London – or “North Weezy” as she calls it – had been the major talking point of this year’s series, with some calling her act a problematic parody of hip-hop culture. The Guardian‘s Lola Okolosie recently argued that her performance on the show is “modern-day blackface”.
The reality TV contestant had seen herself accused of being an actress by a member of Little Mix and described as “taking the mickey out of rap” by Professor Green. Lily Allen also described Honey G as “offensive”, adding that the act was “so wrong on so many levels”.
Taking to Twitter before Sunday’s final, Honey G said in a video: “Yo yo yo this is your girl Honey G. I hope you all enjoyed my performance last night at the X Factor final and, yes it is true I am now signed to Simon Cowell’s record label Syco.”
“I’m going to be releasing my first single on the 23rd of December and I’m shooting the video this week so I’m so excited. I’m just so happy,” she added. “I just hope that everyone goes out, buys the single, supports it, we tear it up and we kill it, smash it. Bring on the album.”

This year’s X Factor was won by Matt Terry. The 23-year-old waiter beat Finnish singer Saara Aalto to clinch the title at Wembley Arena after he performed Randy Crawford’s 1980 hit ‘One Day I’ll Fly Away’.
