Zach Galifianakis to become a clown in Louis CK sitcom

FX show ‘Baskets’ to air in 2016

The Hangover‘s Zach Galifianakis will star in a new sitcom co-written with Louis CK called Baskets.

The show has been commissioned by FX and will go into production next year. A 10-episode run is planned with an early 2016 air date to be confirmed.

Galifianakis’ character Chip Baskets dreams of becoming a clown but, after failing to make the grade at a prestigious clowning school in Paris, he’s forced to take a job with the local rodeo.

Deadline reports, FX President Eric Schrier said of Baskets: “Zach Galifianakis, Louis CK and Jonathan Krisel have created an absolutely brilliant show. To say Zach’s portrayal of the lead character Chip Baskets is hilarious/unique/riveting/fascinating would be an understatement. We can’t wait for the world to meet him.”

Louis CK (pictured) won a second Emmy Award for comedy writing for his show Louie at Sunday’s ceremony in Los Angeles. The comedian appeared alongside Bradley Cooper in David O Russell’s American Hustle.

Galifianakis recently pulled out of the film Freeheld and was replaced by Steve Carell. He is due to start filming Jared Hess comedy Loomis Fargo with Owen Wilson and Kristen Wiig.
