Zooey Deschanel’s new show picked up for full series

Fox extends 'The New Girl' run to 24 episodes

The New Girl, the comedy series starring Zooey Deschanel, has been picked up by Fox for a full series after the first episodes were a huge success.

In the show, Deschanel plays a newly dumped teacher who moves in with three single guys. President of Entertainment at Fox, Kevin Reilly, said of The New Girl:

We love the charming Zooey Deschanel and the entire cast, we’re knocked out with the work that [creator] Liz Meriwether and the whole staff is doing and we are really psyched about the upcoming episodes in the pipeline.

Originally set at 14 episodes, the show has proved popular enough for the network to add an extra 10 shows, making it the first programme of the new American season extended to a full run.

The pilot episode for The New Girl pulled in over 10 million viewers, eclipsing the preceding new episode of Glee. The second episode also performed well bringing in just under 10million.

As well as a successful acting career in Hollywood movies such as (500) Days of Summer and Yes Man, Zooey Deschanel performs as one half of She & Him with M Ward.

E4 has bought the rights to air The New Girl in the UK. A start date has yet to be announced.
