U2 to premiere new song during Superbowl

'Invisible' will be available as a free download for 24 hours after the February 2 event

U2 are to premiere new song ‘Invisible’ during this year’s Superbowl.

The track will appear in an advert announcing a new partnership with Bono’s charity (RED) and Bank Of America, reports Rolling Stone

The song will then be available for for free on iTunes during the match and for 24 hours after, Bank of America will donate $1 (60p) per download of the track, up to a total of $2million (£1.2million), to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

U2 recently received an Oscar nomination for their most recent song ‘Ordinary Love’, which appears on the soundtrack of the film Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom. The track won Best Original Song at the Golden Globes. The band recently played their first live show in three years at a Haiti benefit concert in Beverly Hills and have been announced as the first guests to perform on presenter Jimmy Fallon’s first episode of The Tonight Show. The band will be performing on the show – which is currently fronted by Jay Leno – on February 17.

Super Bowl XLVIII takes place at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey on February 2. Bruno Mars (pictured) will supply the prestigious halftime performance, said to the most-watched TV performance of the year. Foo Fighters, Imagine Dragons, The Roots and Fall Out Boy will perform at a series of pre-Superbowl events at New York’s Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum between January 30 and February 1.
