Australian man sacked for calling Singapore ‘f*****g s**t’ because it doesn’t have Pokémon Go

The man also claimed Singapore's population is "stupid" and suggested the average IQ there would fall if he left

An Australian Pokémon Go fan has been sacked after complaining that the game isn’t available in his new home of Singapore.

According to the Daily Mail, Aussie expat Sonny Truyen wrote on Facebook over the weekend: ‘You can’t f*****g catch Pokémon in this piece of f*****g s*** country.”

Responding to comments on the thread, Truyen also claimed Singapore’s population is “stupid” and suggested the average IQ there would fall if he left.

Darius Cheng, chief executive of Truyen’s employers 99.co, confirmed in a Facebook post that Truyen has now been relieved of his dutues.

“Sonny, as an SEO specialist, has only started consulting for us for a week before the incident happened,” Cheng explained. “We are a proud Singaporean company and do not condone such language or behaviour, hence we have since terminated his engagement once the incident came to light.”

Released to much fanfare last week, Pokémon Go is an augmented-reality edition of the popular video game franchise which sees the fictional creatures superimposed into real-life settings.

Though some figures suggest the game is already as popular as Twitter in the US, the game has also been causing controversy since its launch because of its inbuilt geolocation feature. Police in Australia have issued a warning over gamer safety, urging users to be aware of their surroundings, while it has been reported that a gamer found a dead body while using the app.

Meanwhile, armed robbers in the US have reportedly been using the app to lure “unwitting victims” into areas of “seclusion” before carrying out their crimes.
