Spielberg's adaptation of the Roald Dahl classic has won largely positive reviews at Cannes
A new trailer for Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of Roald Dahl’s The BFG has been released following the film’s successful premiere at Cannes over the weekend.
Mark Rylance, who won an Oscar and a BAFTA for his performance in Spielberg’s last film, Bridge Of Spies, takes on the iconic role of the Big Friendly Giant (BFG). He stars opposite young rising star Ruby Barnhill, who was cast as The BFG’s friend Sophie in 2014 when she was just 10 years old.
The film’s cast also includes Bill Hader (Saturday Night Live), Penelope Wilton (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel), Rafe Spall (One Day), Rebecca Hall (The Prestige) and Flight Of The Conchords‘ Jemaine Clement. The film’s script based on Dahl’s much-loved children’s book of the same name was written by E.T. screenwriter Melissa Mathison before she sadly passed away last November.
The BFG premiered out of competition at the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday (May 14) and won largely positive reviews from film critics. It currently holds an approval rating of 79% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The BFG opens in the US on July 1 before hitting cinema screens in the UK a few weeks later on July 22. Watch the latest trailer below.
