Fans also sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to singer Kele Okereke as they played a tiny warm up show at Brudenell Social Club

The show at Brudenell Social Club also happened to fall on singer Kele Okereke’s 37th birthday – with the crowd singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to him before the band launched into ‘Two More Years.’

Catch fan-filmed footage of the moment below.

During the show, the band played ‘Silent Alarm’ in full, in reverse order, before returning to play an encore of rarities and hits.

The band will embark on a European-wide tour this month to celebrate their seminal debut album, ‘Silent Alarm’. Released in 2005, the record gained the band a Mercury Prize nomination as well as the accolade of NME’s Album of the Year.

The tour will culminate with a huge show at London’s Alexandra Palace. It’s been confirmed that the shows will be with the band’s current line-up, rather than the original ‘Silent Alarm’ formation that featured Matt Tong on drums and Gordon Moakes on bass.

The band have confirmed they will put out a live version of the album next year, with the release date set as 22 February 2019.

NME’s 2005 review stated: “‘Silent Alarm’ is the unpigeonholeable soundtrack to 21st-century life as a cast-off. In a world of posers, fakers and bandwagon-jumpers, Bloc Party are unquestionably ‘4 real’.

“They never shy away from showing their truest feelings, even if those are of vulnerability or weakness. It’s this honesty which has spoken to people and will speak to a hell of a lot more when ‘Silent Alarm’ rings out beyond the desks of music journalists.”
