Will Smith might not star in the forthcoming ‘Bad Boys’ sequels

It's not clear whether Smith will star, produce or both.

Sony may have already announced two forthcoming Bad Boys sequels, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, developers do not yet know if Will Smith is to star in them.

Insiders say that Smith will be involved in the revival of the franchise, which had lay dormant since the release of Bad Boys 2 in 2003, but it’s not clear whether he will star, produce or both.

Following years of rumours, Sony officially announced Bad Boys 3 and Bad Boys 4 earlier this month. Director Michael Bay is not expected to return to the franchise, with Joe Carnahan (Narc) believed to be helming the project. February 17, 2017 and on July 3, 2019 have been earmarked as release dates.

One project Smith is definitely not involved in is the forthcoming sequel to the 1996 film Independence Day after he turned down the opportunity to reprise his role as Captain Steven Hiller. Independence Day: Resurgence will, however, see the return of Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A Fox and Brent Spiner, along with newcomers Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, Charlotte Gainsbourg and William Fichtner. It is scheduled for a June 24, 2016 release.

Smith is, however, believed to be plotting a reboot of iconic ’90s sitcom The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air.
