Years & Years have released ‘Sanctify’, the first track to be taken from their highly anticipated second album.
The trio released their debut album ‘Communion‘ in 2015, scoring their first UK Number One with it.
In a press release, frontman Olly Alexander said: “The video for ‘Sanctify’ centres around an audition against the backdrop of a future metropolis called Palo Santo. It’s the first part of a bigger jigsaw puzzle and my hope is that it confuses the hell out of people but also excites them in a mysterious and sensual way.”
He added: “We’ve deliberately hidden lots of different meanings and I want people to come up with their own interpretations, I’m asking people to jump down the rabbit hole with me and let their imagination run free.”
Details of Years & Years’ second album are yet to be announced. An official first single is said to be on the way “soon”.
The release of the track comes after a period of teasing from the band. They shared a puzzling clip to Twitter last month, which featured grainy footage of their ‘King’ video and ideographic text, sparking speculation among fans that they are set to make a big announcement.
Later, they posted another video on the social media platform. It featured Alexander encouraging fans to sign up to their mailing list. It was captioned: “a human named ‘Olly’ is trying to contact you !! In order to receive this communication, sign up now…”
