Tracey’s performance came immediately after he picked up the award for Best British Song for ‘Ladbroke Grove’. Reviewing AJ Tracey’s 2019 debut album, NME called ‘Ladbroke Grove’ “’90s UK garage that could rival the greats of the genre”.
Picking up the award, which saw him beat The 1975 (‘People’), Dua Lipa (‘Don’t Start Now’), Mura Masa featuring Slowthai (‘Deal Wiv It’) and Georgia (‘About Work The Dancefloor’), the West London MC thanked his family, his mum and his manager.
He then went on to discuss mental health issues, and asked people to speak out when they’re struggling. “It’s OK not to feel OK, make sure you lean on someone,” he said.
Other performers at the NME Awards 2020 include FKA Twigs, Yungblud, AJ Tracey and The 1975 who will close the ceremony with a special five-song performance.
