To celebrate the partnership between the NME Awards 2016 and Live Music Capital of the World® Austin, Texas – and in anticipation of the ceremony tomorrow (Wednesday 17) – Roller Derby, a hugely popular sport in Austin, came to Brixton this morning.
A massive attraction in the US, Roller Derby has strong roots within the Texas city and is also gaining popularity in the UK. Check out some snaps from the event below.

The NME Awards 2016 with Austin, Texas will take place tomorrow, Wednesday 17th February, at London’s O2 Academy Brixton. The ceremony will play host to some iconic bands, including newly crowned ‘Godlike Genius’ Coldplay and Innovation Award winners Bring Me The Horizon. Foals, The Maccabees and Rat Boy will also perform on the night.
The Libertines and Wolf Alice lead nominations for the awards with six nods each. Following thousands of votes from NME readers, both acts receive nods in the categories of ‘Best British Band, ‘Best Live Band’ and ‘Best Track’.
Hot on their heels are Foals with four nominations, and The Maccabees, who still haven’t managed to add an NME Awards gong to their trophy cabinet. Could this be their year?
Recipient of a special honour on the night will be Yoko Ono. She’ll pick up an Inspiration Award for her exceptional contribution to modern culture.
