Where’s his solo album? Are Oasis reforming? Does he really think Noel looks like a potato? So many questions – but there always is with Liam Gallagher. Here’s some of the most obscure Liam info out there, from his cereal-related childhood nickname to why he sings with his arms behind his back…
Liam got into music in his late teens. Possibly because of John Lennon’s ghost. “I had an out of body experience when I was about 17 or 16, and as far as I’m concerned that’s when I started getting into music. That’s when it all started going down, and I reckon it has something to do with him.”
The first time Liam met The Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger at a party, he tapped him on the shoulder and did an impression of him. Afterwards he said: “He’ll respect me more for that.”
He came tenth on a list of the wittiest people in British history, commissioned by the satellite channel Dave, just below Brian Clough (9th) and William Shakespeare (8th). Oscar Wilde topped the list.
Noel gave Liam the choice of whether he wanted to sing lead on ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’ or ‘Wonderwall’. He chose the latter, but perhaps if he’d chosen the former things could have been so, so different.
His clothes label Pretty Green won Menswear Brand Of The Year at the Draper’s Awards in 2010.
On Michael Jackson: “He was a genius, without a doubt. Not my kind of music, though. I preferred him when he was in the Jackson Five but then he turned into a bit of a nutjob. But it was always on the cards, wasn’t it? Anyone who has their own fairground in the back garden has to go nuts.”
A pre-‘Definitely Maybe’ track was called ‘Take Me’ which Liam co-wrote with Bonehead. Subsequently Noel wanted to record it, but Liam refused.
The Liam diet? “Eat less, move more and don’t drink beer- it’s a simple as that. But me I love pie and chips- so it’s really hard.”
He’s a fan of aftershave. “I do a bit of Christian Dior and there’s another one I like – Very Sexy:For Him by Victoria’s Secret.”
He was said to be in talks to appear on Countdown, specifically on the Dictionary Corner section. Carol Vorderman said: “Liam loves the show and yes, we’re in talks about him coming on. I told him I think it will do his cred no end of good.”
Asked about the top ten things he hated he said: “Man United. I hate Man United 10 times.”
As a child Liam played the recorder, guitar and violin.
He says his favourite “heartbreak song” is Lou Reed’s ‘Perfect Day’.
Manic Street Preachers’ Nicky Wire made a Top 10 list of his vocal performances. ‘Slide Away’ came top with ‘Live Forever’ at Number Two.
Asked what Oasis John Lennon would have covered if he was alive, Liam picked ‘I’m Outta Time’.
He’s into jogging. Although he calls it running. “Not jogging, man, running. Get up early, live right on the heath (Hampstead), pair of trainers on and away I go. Beautiful.”
Liam’s style icons are: George Harrison, John Lennon, former Rolling Stone Brian Jones and Paul Weller (who ended up designing some clothes for Liam’s Pretty Green range).
He’s said that the reason he sings with his arms behind his back is because it allows him to project more power through his voice.
On La Roux: “No way, mate. She’s got man hands” (NME, August 2009). We doubt they’ll end up doing a duet, then.
The first Liam track Oasis recorded was ‘Little James’ which appeared on ‘Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants’. Mark Coyle who produced the majority of ‘Definitely Maybe’ played 12 string guitar on the song.
His middle names are John and Paul. What no Ringo?
