To celebrate the release of their new album ‘Ellipsis‘, Biffy Clyro returned to their native Scotland to perform an intimate acoustic set in Glasgow’s HMV Argyle Street. As well as airing softer versions of the record’s biggest moments, the Biff also took time to meet fans and sign records. Here’s what went down at the very special in-store show.
Their seventh album 'Ellipsis' is set to top the UK album charts tomorrow, having outsold the remainder of the Top Five combined. They previously went to Number One with their last album 'Opposites' in 2013.
200 fans crammed into the HMV on Argyle Street to see the lads perform acoustic versions of tracks from the new album, as well as old tracks like 'The Captain' from 'Only Revolutions'.
Lead singer Simon Neil told the crowd that their visit to Scotland was fleeting however. "We haven't been back in Scotland for a while so it's nice. We're only back for 24 hours." He then discussed 'Ellipsis' and made reference to their Glasgow gig in August. "We're so buzzing about the album. Thank you all for coming down. Can't wait to see you all later in the year. We'll do a proper Biffy show.”
Following the performance, the store's official Twitter account revealed that a couple got engaged during the intimate acoustic set. The prospective groom popped the question to his partner via a message of 'Will you marry Chris?' on his record, penned by none other than Simon Neil.
The five song set saw the band play 'Rearrange', 'Medicine' and 'Howl' from their new album, with 'Only Revolutions' single 'The Captain' and 'Biblical' from 'Opposites' closing out the special performance.
The band also took time to sign records, t-shirts and take pictures with fans of all ages.
In August Biffy will co-headline Reading & Leeds festivals with Fall Out Boy, in addition to a sold-out Glasgow Summer Sessions gig on the August Bank Holiday weekend.
