‘Star Wars Celebration’, a convention toasting everything great and good about George Lucas’ universe and its resurgence as a rejuvenated series, led by last year’s stellar movie The Force Awakens, was held in London this weekend. Plenty of the stars of the franchise stopped by, much to fans’ delight. Here’s what went down. Or, in Star Wars speak, “Fairly recently, in a convention centre not so far away…”
Held at the ExCeL London Exhibition Centre this weekend, Star Wars Celebration billed itself as offering access to "Star Wars cast and crew, costumes, exclusive merchandise, entertainment [and] exhibits." No wonder fans were excited.
It was a sunny weekend in London, much to this guy's delight who was here to take in a little bit of everything and then decide what merch he's going to invest in on Sunday.
This Tusken Raider must have taken a wrong turn on his way to Tatooine but fortunately still ended up in Docklands.
There was plenty of material for those fans to go on during the Q&A around Rogue One, the upcoming first standalone Star Wars movie. Seems like it's going to be a pretty dark war movie, despite reports of reshoots to add some levity to proceeds.
Felicity Jones, who plays protagonist Jyn Erso, explained to press that to "beat Stormtroopers down to the ground is one of the most joyful things a human being gets to do."
Appearing alongside franchise stalwarts Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher, new generation Star Wars acting talent John Boyega made a surprise appearance – fans were suitably excited – and teased about the upcoming Episode VIII, “The story is very, very interesting – to keep it kind of like secret."
Fans were out in force throughout the two-day event, suitably dressed of course.
Boyega sat down with Alden Ehrenreich, who has been freshly cast as Han Solo in the new series. “You’ve got the charm stuff down, man,” Boyega told the newcomer, before assuring the crowd, “He’s got that smile like Han!”
The fancy dresser was just one of many fans NME spoke to on the scene. Watch the full Star Wars Celebration video here.

Between them, the people in this room have literally had sex three-and-a-half times. We're joking, of course. We love Star Wars!
