After years of changeable weather, the sun finally shone on Glastonbury for its 40th anniversary celebration.


Muse headline the Pyramid on Saturday night. They were joined onstage by U2’s The Edge for a cover of ‘Where The Streets Have No Name’.


Stevie Wonder brought Glastonbury 2010 to an emotional finale – and was joined onstage by Michael Eavis. The Motown legend headlined the Pyramid Stage, delivering his biggest hits. Before ‘Living For The City’ he sent out an anti-war message: “I believe God is about the perpetuation of life, not the destroying of it,” before quipping, “If I could see I could really kick some ass.”



The Drums pose at Glastonbury 2010. The band played a special acoustic slot at Strummerville halfway through the night, as well as an afternoon show on the John Peel stage.


Julian Casablancas launched himself into the John Peel Stage audience and climbed the rigging during a highly-charged solo set that included Strokes songs. “Glastonbury… we’re very privileged and happy to be here,” he told the crowd on his first trip to Worthy Farm.

The majestic Pyramid Stage in all its glory – and 40th year – at Glastonbury 2010. The iconic construction has a colourful history: disaster struck in 1994 when it burnt down and 1981’s Pyramid doubled as a cow shed.

Pet Shop Boys covered Coldplay during their headlining Glastonbury set. The British pop veterans, playing the event for the first time in 10 years, performed Chris Martin and co’s 2008 UK Number One single ‘Viva La Vida’ as part of their hit-laden set on The Other Stage.


World Cup fever gripped the site – right up until England got thrashed by Germany on the Sunday afternoon. The national team’s dismal performance was watched by a crowd of 50,000 in a field reserved especially for the purpose.

Michael Eavis introduces Radiohead’s surprise performance on the Park Stage. Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood played an unannounced early evening set, climaxing in classic tracks ‘Karma Police’ and ‘Street Spirit (Fade Out)’.

Carl Barat headlines the Leftfield stage. Coming onstage smoking a cigarette and backed by a five-piece band made up of an electric guitarist, cellist, drummer and double bass player, Barat kicked off his set by playing two brand new songs.


Florence dazzled the crowd at sunset on the Other Stage on Friday, playing new songs including her recently-released track ‘Heavy In Your Arms’ (which came out as part of the latest Twilight film) and conducting the crowd’s cheers with a drumstick.


Flaming Lips enjoy a party-atmosphere climax to their Other Stage set late on Friday evening. The band were joined on stage by friends dressed as giant gorillas and frogs during their first ever Glastonbury headline set, with Wayne Coyne at one point crowd-surfing in a giant plastic bubble.


The Park Stage is getting a growing reputation as the place to see up and coming bands on the outskirts of Glastonbury who often appear on far bigger stages the following year. Performers over the weekend include Lissie, Broken Bells, Beach House and Stornoway.

La Roux’s Ellie Jackson goes for a stroll. The singer played the Other Stage shortly before Florence and The Machine on Friday, with even the soaring temperatures unable to wilt her cornetto quiff.


With not a single drop of rain falling at the 2010 event, and relentless 30º temperatures, many fans were forced to seek shade to avoid joining the hundreds of party-goers treated for heat exhaustion.

Snoop and entourage show Glastonbury (and Prince Charles for that matter) how an American VIP rolls. After playing the Pyramid Stage in the baking hot afternoon, the rapper joined Damon Albarn onstage during the headline Gorillaz set.


Glastonbury’s 178,000 festival goers have reason to be happy as crime on the site is marginally down on last year. According to police figures there have been 277 crimes reported so far this year. The figure includes 156 reported thefts from tents and there have been 93 arrests, 77 for possession with intent to supply.

Dizzee Rascal was joined by Florence And The Machine’s Florence Welch on stage (June 25) at Glastonbury. The pair performed their recent collaboration single ‘You Got The Dirtee Love’ during the encore of Dizzee’s slot on the Pyramid Stage – playing just below headliners Gorillaz.

Bloc Party’s Kele Okereke played his first ever solo UK festival show – and hinted he may have left the band. The singer made reference to Bloc Party throughout the set, at one point casting doubt on his future involvement. “For those of you who don’t know, I used to be in a band,” he said, before launching into a medley of Bloc Party songs.
