Menace Beach and Splashh both played storming sets at the latest night of Ray-Ban’s Envision Tour at Leeds' Nation Of Shopkeepers on June 6th.
Synth-lines squalled over a thick web of guitar as Menace Beach's Ryan Needham sang recent singles ‘Drop Outs’ and ‘Tastes Like Medicine’.
The set culminated in cheers of ‘Men-ace Beach! Men-ace Beach’, leaving the bar set high for the night’s headliners Splashh.
London-via-Australasia four-piece Splashh created an altogether different atmosphere, relying on a cool, laconic build of slacker-pop.
Singer Toto Vivian let the audience know that it was “nice to be here” before requesting that the bulbs overhead were dimmed, confident that the summery vibes of ‘Sun Kissed Bliss’ would make the room feel bright enough.
It was an uplifting experience for all involved.
Menace Beach are made up of members of local favourites Sky Larkin, Hookworms and Pulled Apart By Horses. For details of further shows in the Ray-Ban Envision Tour and how to get tickets for them go to nme.com/rayban.
This gig was so DIY even the merch had to be hand-painted. Previous Ray-Ban’s Envision Shows have featured Spector and Theme Park. Willy Moon will perform at the next show.
