A campaign to save London’s 100 Club has been launched. Long-time fans of the central London venue Tony Morrison and Jim Piddington have set up Savethe100club.co.uk, asking people to donate money, following last week’s (September 23) news that it could close for good this Christmas because of spiralling debts.

The Emerge NME Radar Tour got up to full strength on Wednesday night as Wilder joined The Joy Formidable, Chapel Club and Flats on the road at the Norwich Waterfront. The band had been missing due to prior committments. Headliners The Joy Formidable also revealed they are to team up with former Mansun singer Paul Draper on the final date of the tour on October 14.

Labour Party annual party conference 2010

Labour leader Ed Miliband seemed to stress his indie credentials as he addressed his party Tuesday in Manchester. Miliband took to the stage to Vampire Weekend’s ‘A-Punk’, before delivering a speech outlining his plans for the party. The Labour leader left the stage at the end of his address to Kings Of Leon’s ‘Use Somebody’.

Pete Doherty has been charged with possession of cocaine following an inquiry into the death of a documentary filmmaker in London. Robin Whitehead was found dead in a Hackney flat in January after a suspected overdose, and Doherty was arrested on suspicion of supplying drugs.

Joaquin Phoenix on Letterman – New York

Joaquin Phoenix has admitted he had doubts while making his much talked about fake documentary I’m Still Here. There were concerns about the actor’s health following his shock announcement to quit acting to focus on his music career instead, and his subsequent interview with David Letterman in 2008 – which saw a bearded Phoenix mumble his way through the awkward interview.

Kings Of Leon’s Caleb Followill has admitted that all the lyrics on the band’s new album were ad-libbed. Speaking in the latest issue of Uncut magazine, the frontman said that sessions for ‘Come Around Sundown’ saw him record the ad-libbed lyrics then try to change them later – only to be vetoed by his bandmates.

National Television Awards 2010 – Arrivals – London

Comic Jack Dee apparently almost made Jedward cry during filming for the latest series of Never Mind The Buzzcocks, because he taunted them so much. BBC bosses are now considering how much editing is needed before they can air the footage without causing offence. The new series of Never Mind The Buzzcocks starts on October 21.

US President Barack Obama Statement on Climate Conference

US president Barack Obama has said Bob Dylan was “sceptical” about meeting and playing for him at the White House recently. Dylan performed for the president in February, at a show honouring the leaders of Civil Rights movement. Speaking to Rollingstone.com, Obama said that, while most musicians who perform for him usually ask for a meet and greet session, Dylan was nonplussed.

Green Day NME 2005

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong is set to join the cast of the Broadway musical based on their album ‘American Idiot’. The singer is to take up the role of persuasive drug dealer St Jimmy for eight performances, from Tuesday (September 28) through to October 3.

Bloc Party guitarist Russell Lissack was taken to hospital after being bitten by a lion while on tour with Ash in South Africa recently. Lissack, who is currently playing with Ash as a touring guitarist, was bitten by the lion cub when he and Ash frontman Tim Wheeler visited an animal sanctuary in Cape Town. He was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital where he had a tetanus booster.
