Kasabian have offered their services to try and save one of Leicester’s best-loved music venues, which is set to close down at the end of this month (January 31). The band – who are from the city – played some of their first gigs at The Charlotte, which has also hosted gigs by the likes of Oasis, Blur and Arctic Monkeys.

Lily Allen in concert – London

Lily Allen tried hypnosis when her last tour got too stressful for her. The singer admitted she took comfort in junk food, saying: "I was sitting in hotel rooms ordering chips." In a bid to shed pounds, she started having hypnotherapy sessions. "It worked for a bit," she said (The Sun).

Brighton festival The Great Escape has announced the first wave of acts set to play this year’s bash. The festival, which once again takes place across a number of venues in and around Brighton between May 14-16, will see the likes of Future Of The Left, Micachu And The Shapes, The Soft Pack and VV Brown all take part.

Beyonce on Today Show Concert Series – New York

Beyonce is set to headline the 15th annual Essence Music Festival, which is set to take place in New Orleans this summer. In addition to featuring several musical performers, this year’s festival will also celebrate the inauguration and presidency of US President Barack Obama.

Britain 2008 European MTV Awards

Katy Perry, Bloc Party and The Script have joined the line-up for this year’s Oxegen Festival. As previously reported Kings Of Leon are headlining the event for a second year, while Snow Patrol and The Killers are also playing. The 2009 festival takes place between July 10 and 12 at Punchestown Racecourse, Naas. A pre-sale will be operating from February 25, while tickets go on general sale on March 6.

David Bowie – Isle of Wight Festival – Seaclose Park, Newport

David Bowie has denied that he has a Twitter account, following reports that he was working on new material in Berlin, based on a Bowie Twitter imposter’s post. Bowie also reaffirmed that he would not be playing at this year’s Coachella festival, after it was rumoured that he was set to revive his Ziggy Stardust alter-ego for the US event.

Chairlift have announced the dates of an extensive North American tour, kicking off next month. The hotly-tipped New York band will begin their tour on February 7 in Miami before hitting cities including New York, Cleveland, New Orleans, Athens, Seattle and San Francisco.

BRITAIN BRIT AWARDS 2008

Paul McCartney, The Cure and The Killers will headline the Coachella festival on April 17, 18 and 19 respectively at the California bash.
Other acts confirmed to be playing at the event include Morrissey, Amy Winehouse, My Bloody Valentine, Franz Ferdinand, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV On The Radio, Leonard Cohen and Conor Oberst.

The White Stripes Concert in Los Angeles

The White Stripes’ Meg White has donated one of her drumkits to be auctioned to raise money to help Detroit music scene lynchpin Jim Shaw, who is battling against cancer. The kit, which can be seen in the video for the band’s 2003 hit ‘The Hardest Button To Button’, is one of several lots going under the hammer at the Jim Shaw Rock’n’Roll Benefit on February 7 at the Cpop Gallery venue in Detroit.
