The original Guns N’ Roses line-up is reforming at Coachella this year and everyone is – quite rightly – losing their shit at the prospect of seeing unpredictable frontman Axl Rose patch it up with legendary guitarist Slash. But there’s also another question on our minds. When, exactly, did Axl start looking like Keith Lemon, the comic persona of British comedian Leigh Francis? We investigate…
It really is like magic, eh?
January 1980: Pre-transformation Axl looking, as Keith would say, bang tidy.
October 1985: Those shades have a bit of a Lemony vibe about them but this is still very much vintage Axl.
April 1992: Ooosh! Here we see Axl performing at a Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert. The 'tache is forming and Keith Lemon wore a jacket to the 2012 Brit Awards that bore disturbing similarities to this one.
June 2006: A stark contrast. Axl has gone almost full Lemon in the 13 years between this photo and the last one,
though even Keith never rocked braids with Paris Hilton circa-2002 shades. Could Axl have out-Lemoned Keith Lemon here?
February 2010: Fearne Cotton is just out of shot and Axl is about to make some lame gag about the size of her nostrils or something.
October 2010: By now the resemblance is uncanny. It's almost impossible to believe that Axl is not making an uncouth comment about "motting" or "piss flaps".
October 2011: In a tribute to his idol, Axl wears a Lemon-coloured jacket at Rock in Rio in Rio de Janiero.
October 2011: Keith Lemon once dressed up as Wolverine and it was genuinely almost indistinguishable from this photo of Axl onstage at the Bank Atlantic Center in Florida.
Present day: Welcome to the jungle.
