New Music Of The Day: sir Was – Falcon

New City Slang artist sir Was returns today, with a video for ‘Falcon’. If you’ve been listening to Perth group Koi Child (and really, you should be) in recent months, you might feel a certain affinity to what he’s doing. Here we get a dreamy, trip hop lament of lonliness. It also reminds me of another more famous Aussie act, Avalanches.

Real name Joel Wästberg, sir Was himself couldn’t be much further away from that part of the world if he tried, having grown up in a tiny village called Frillesås on the west coast of Sweden. He releases his debut EP ‘Says Hi’ on June 3, while you can see him live at Monarch in Berlin (May 31) and London’s Old Blue Last (June 1).
