Cathedral Classics Volume One
Founded in 2006 to celebrate shoegaze, Sonic Cathedral has pooled together tracks from its first 11 singles for this timely compilation. While the acts represented here are bound together with a mutual love of My Bloody Valentine and Ride, et al (excepting Mark Gardener, who was busy fronting the latter), this disc is something more than an exercise in wistful nostalgia. School Of Seven Bells evoke the same ethereal quality as Cocteau Twins, but with a futuristic twist; The Tamborines channel The Byrds-via-The Jesus And Mary Chain, and Kyte are too busy churning out skyscraping anthems to worry about the floor beneath them.
