A Wasp In A Jar
So if it’s Blood Red Shoes leading the second wave of boy-girl rock duos in terms of bloody-knuckled volume, it’s London pair Helen and Andy – aka Tiger Force – bringing the DIY ethic. Recorded for less than the price of a couple of his’n’hers trilbies, their debut mini-LP fizzes like a tumble drier full of cola. Tooth-dissolvingly sweet Gameboy bleeps and DJ Shadow-esque swooshes swathe the guitar onslaught like a Manga-designed cape around Jack White, complete with raucous boy-girl vocals that sound like the most rockin’ domestic argument ever. More intense than dinner with David Blaine, a bit too often their electric zoo of sound becomes headachey (‘Syntax Error’), but on the whole this is a promising debut with big, sharp, flashing neon teeth.
