Wild Beasts

With a squeaky-voiced singer and song structures like falling down a flight of stairs, the mere existence of Wild Beasts in a rational universe poses questions about how much wilful perversity one band can get away with. ‘Assembly’ continues their tradition of sticking two fingers up to a rational universe and blowing a raspberry at it. A breathless piano jaunt through the madness zoo, it has Hayden slobbering about how his “Goose-pimpled gourd” will “quiver the jellies of every heavy”. The further they fling themselves into the weirdosphere, the more accessible they seem to become.
