Against Me!

New Wave

America’s biggest little anarcho-punk group, Against Me! should have been massive four years ago. They haven’t made it easy for themselves: their 2004 tour DVD was less a collection of live performances than a litany of pranks they played on the cheque-waving A&R goons that dogged their every tour-stop. So, in a move that’s sure to further split their already fractional fanbase, they’ve chomped down on the bullet and signed to a major. The result? Their best album to date. Tom Gabel’s dangerous-yet-warm voice straddles ‘White People For Peace’, a protest song about protest songs, to a duet with Tegan And Sara’s Tegan (‘Borne On The FM Waves Of The Heart’). Absolutely gripping.
