Not quite sure why lead singer Beyonce feels the need to ask a ‘question’ at the beginning of this track since the answer is so very, very clear: ‘Independent Woman (Pt 1)’ rocks. Okay, so the girls have got it a little wrong – measuring their independence by the glint of their jewellery, the size of their cars and the height of their heels – but when beats as confident as this smack you upside your head, and when the track has such immediate, club-bound freshness, there’s no need to ask questions. You just dance.
