Poppy & The Jezebels

The Lips Of Cleopatra

After dealing with “Nazi Girls” and “Electro Bitches” on previous efforts, Birmingham’s lo-fi teen punkers have taken it back, right back to 52BC, and seem to have finally found their harmonic niche, swapping bratty front for clumsy but sweet melody, all courtly piano, celestial harmonies and drums that won’t stay in place. Add to that lyrics which combine Egyptian rulers with Touche Eclat make-up and you have the first all-girl battalion in the underage revolution. Considering their combined age is about half that of a single Hold Steady, these are four talented little hussies.
