Cheeky Cheeky And The Nosebleeds

You Let Me Go (Twenty Years Of Boredom)

As much as there’s something eminently punchable about Cheeky Cheeky’s gawky demeanour, there’s no denying that a dark pop genius is at work beneath the spectacles. Like the Young Knives if they lightened up, ‘You Let Me Go’ is a pop classic by stealth. It begins like a Britpop jangle that’s suffering from scurvy, then makes a nuisance of itself within your subconscious before springing forth into a chorus so outlandishly hooky it could be used for whale harpooning. Which wouldn’t be a very nice way for a pop song to end up, but them’s the breaks we suppose.
