Audioslave : Cochise
Their genesis is by now widely known – three quarters RATM, one quarter Soundgarden, five quarters riff-tastic, blow-dried rock excess equals a post-millennium Spinal Tap with a marketing budget bigger than China.
First came the album – overblown, overlong, piss-poor – and now, FINALLY, a single worthy of the hype. It’s fierce and furious. It sounds like Led Zeppelin
and Humble Pie. It’s all about the last Red Indian chief to die bloodied but uncaptured by the white man. It’s hugely self-indulgent and treads the thin line between great rock and self-parody. It’s marvellous.
