The Teenagers

Love No

Spoken-word lyrics can be distracting, a little too personal – but in the hands of The Teenagers, who do it in abundance, it’s a neat trick. The French trio follow the profane Yank-Brit shagfest of ‘Homecoming’ with this narrative of relationship breakdown: “You spend so much time on your computer/But you shouldn’t, because your eyes are getting red/…and what about that movie Showgirls? I can’t believe you’re watching it again”. ‘Love No’ encapsulates what makes The Teenagers so brilliant: self-aware, smart sentiments, played out against a backdrop of lush, danceable, huggable pop.
