Hold My Hand
While always very much the sort of chap who gives off the impression he can do anything, it’s only now on ‘Hold My Hand’ that UNKLE’s James Lavelle chooses to step up to the microphone and give us a blast of the old pipes. The aim here – as evinced by the presence of sometime Queens/Desert Sessions dude Chris Goss on production duties – is an electronic take on Queens Of The Stone Age’s desolate, vulture-picked vibe. What this is, though, is a sort of half-arsed take on the psychedelic dancefloor scuzz of Death In Vegas’ ‘Aisha’, or, if you like, Kasabian gone goth. Neither, to be painfully truthful, appeals.
