Editors strip back huge single ‘Magazine’ in the NME Basement

'Violence' is out now

To celebrate the release of their acclaimed new album ‘Violence‘, Editors performed lead single ‘Magazine’ acoustic in the NME Basement. Check it out in the video above.

Of the studio version of the track, NME wrote that “‘Magazine’ twitches and struts with Depeche Mode electro-rock bravado, clearly assisted with the brutal edge of collaborator Blanck Mass”. But when they swung by the NME Basement for an acoustic session, Editors shone a spotlight on the single’s raw intensity and inescapable melody.

“It’s kind of poking a finger at a corrupt figure of power,” frontman Tom Smith told NME about the meaning of the lyrics. “It’s tongue in cheek, there’s not a specific person I’m thinking about when I’m singing it but it’s those empty postures and posturing that goes on, be it in big business or politics.”
