Walk on stage with Canadian fun-punks PUP at their riotous Leeds Brudenell Club show

The band and crowd were on full, frantic form

Canadian punks PUP recently barrelled their way around a bunch of the UK’s sweatiest venues, bringing ace new album ‘Morbid Stuff’ to their feverish fanbase.

NME joined the four-piece in Leeds at The Brudenell Social Club, for the UK run’s final date. A show packed with stage-diving, crowd-surfing and the ever-inevitable “Yorrrrrrkshire” chants, PUP went one further, introducing their Leeds faithful to ‘PUP-aoke’, a fan-led run-through of old single ‘Reservoir’. It had… mixed results.

We went backstage, on-stage and in the pit at the Brudenell Social Club, to bring you all the madness of PUP’s incomparably brilliant live show. Watch the full video above. In NME‘s recent four-star review of ‘Morbid Stuff’, we dubbed the band’s third full-length “a refreshing, sarcastic antidote to fighting misery with the usual greetings card-meets-motivational poster sentiment,” and declared, “‘Morbid Stuff’ secures PUP’s position at the top of the present-day punk rock pile. By eschewing the feel-good fakery of some of their peers, they’ve cracked something far more unifying than meaningless, posi-punk platitudes. After all, sometimes when you really feel like shit, it’s more fun to kick the dirt around.”
