Watch the trailer for ‘The Happytime Murders’, the first R-rated Muppets movie

No Sesame, All Street.

The first trailer for R-rated Muppets movie The Happytime Murders has arrived, and it’s here to destroy your childhood.

Despite being directed by Brian Henson (the son of Muppets creator Jim Henson), the film is a world away from the family friendly adventures that have charmed the globe over the last sixty years.

Instead, we see a muppet propositioning Melissa McCarthy for oral sex within the first 30 seconds of the trailer and it’s the perfect indication of what’s to follow.

Set in a world where puppets and humans co-exist in peace, The Happytime Murders sees McCarthy stars as Detective Connie Edwards, a top cop who is in charge of solving a string of grisly murders.

We’re given a very brief glimpse at those deaths in the trailer, and it’s weirdly disturbing – think a Kermit lookalike being blasted to pieces and you’re only halfway there.

But while there’s also frequent references to drugs and prostitution throughout, the filthiest gag of them all comes towards the end.

We see disgraced ex-cop and puppet Phil Phillips having a whale of a time in his office with another puppet, before a whole lot of silly string is added to the scenario.

Make your own conclusions and watch the trailer in full to find out more.

Some of the gags land, but others feel a bit flat – we’ll have to see if it’s worth the wait upon release on August 17.
