Pavement’s Spiral Stairs: ‘It is inevitable that we’ll make new music’

Scott Kannberg says the band will write together again if reunion tour goes smoothly

Pavement‘s Scott ‘Spiral Stairs’ Kannberg has revealed that the band are likely to write new material together following their reunion tour next year.

Kannberg said that provided the tour – which heads to the UK in May – goes smoothly, he doesn’t see any reason why they won’t work on new songs.

“If it’s enjoyable for us, I think it is inevitable that we’ll make some more music,” Kannberg said. “I hope so because I think it will be fun. If I was a fan of the band I’d want to hear some new music, but we’re just going to see how it goes.”

Speaking of the upcoming tour, Kannberg told The Age that the band haven’t actually rehearsed properly at present, though he’s excited about the forthcoming gigs.

“We haven’t started rehearsing yet, so I think once we start doing it, some songs will sound better than others. We’re doing some pretty fun shows though. It’s not going to be like a regular tour.”

He added that Pavement are likely to add more dates to the tour as tickets are currently selling well.

Pavement kick off their reunion gigs in Australia and New Zealand in March and also curate and headline the All Tomorrow’s Parties festival in Minehead, UK in May.
