The nineties girl band are "95 percent" confirmed to reunite for the high profile concert, The Independent reports.
The line-up for the closing ceremony, which will celebrate 50 years of British music, is being kept a closely guarded secret.
Paul McCartney announced that he will be performing at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, which will take place on July 27 in east London. The ceremony is being staged by Trainspotting and Slumdog Millionaire director, Danny Boyle.
Coldplay are set to play the closing ceremony of the Paralympic games. They will play the ceremony of September 9 at London's Olympic Stadium as part of an event named 'Festival Of Flame'.
Last month,The Spice Girls reunited for the first time in four years to launch their new musical, Viva Forever.
When asked if she thought girl power was still alive today, Mel C replied "Absolutely, of course it is. It will never die. The biggest artists in the world today are women – Beyonce, Rihanna, Jessie J, Adele. Girl Power reigns."
Viva Forever has been written by Absolutely Fabulous star Jennifer Saunders and tells the story of Viva – a wannabe performer who enters a talent contest – and her family. The show will feature a number of songs by the group, including a mash-up of 'Mama' and 'Viva Forever', and is due to open at London’s Piccadilly Theatre on November 27.
