London’s Oscar Scheller makes the kind of charmingly lo-fi bedroom-pop that sweeps you up in its sugary waves and gently forces a smile on your face. That doesn’t change on ‘Beautiful Words’, the first track from his debut EP of the same name – a swooning cut that bounces on crisp, hip-hop drums and elegant but urgent synth stabs. “I just wanna hear beautiful words returning/But all that you can say is that you haven’t heard a beautiful word,” sighs Oscar in his distinctive, rich baritone. It’s the perfect balance of sparkling and scruffy; a pop song full of promise, hope and subtle power.
