Anyone who’s been craving a dose of banging new Aussie psych on the level of Pond’s ‘Man, It Feels Like Space Again’ and Tame Impala’s ‘Currents’ will be happy to know that Jay Watson – a member of both those bands – is back to his synthy side-project GUM, with which he’s released an album a year since 2014. The 26-year-old has just put out a new single, ‘Gemini’, which comes just one week before the release of third album ‘Flash In The Pan’ on November 11. It’s a swirl of looped vocals, Pond-y synth work and dreamy, subtle bass: ready yourself.
“‘Gemini’ is the first song I recorded for the album,” says Watson, “and probably the most immediate. I’m not really a fan of star signs. It’s kind of a song about people pinning stuff happening in their lives on things like star signs and religion. I am a Gemini though, so there’s the bipolar/duality thing in there is as well.”
